Working
on cars on the weekends is all well and good, but is this really something you could see yourself doing ? It does take
some initiative!!
The automobile is one of the single most important inventions in use in our society. People all over the country rely on the cars and trucks on our nation’s highways for a very long list of reasons, so it makes sense that skilled professionals who can maintain those vehicles are in demand.
Automotive technicians,( mechanics) are in demand in a variety of settings, including
gas station garages, car dealerships and government agencies. The field offers
a range of possibilities and the opportunity to specialize, particularly for
people who complete technological training and certification.
Mechanics work with all of a vehicles parts and systems,
from the brakes and air conditioning to the belts, hoses and steering. In
smaller garages or companies, a mechanic must be familiar with all of these
systems to diagnose customers' problems, but at larger garages, technicians may
specialize in particular areas.
Mechanics must be able to use a range of tools --including electronic diagnostic equipment. Strong problem-solving skills are a plus to find and repair problems.
