Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a United States Federal Holiday observed on the last Monday of May .

Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War. It was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.

It has become a long weekend increasingly devoted to shopping, family gatherings, fireworks, trips to the beach, and marks the start of the summer vacation season!

How Do You Get Pollen Off Your Auto?

Did you know that pollen is as big of a threat to your  vehicles  paint as bird droppings?

Pollen sticks to the surface even if you keep it clean and slick. It leaves your vehicle with a green or yellow
coat that will eventually harm the surface if you leave it on for a long period of time. Unlike bird droppings, pollen is pretty easy to get off  without using harsh methods that could harm your paint.

  •                            What do you  need?
  • Water- Hose- Towel- Quick Spray Detail

    • 1
Spray the pollen off with water. Start on the roof and spray until the pollen is gone, then do the windshield, windows and rear window. Continue down  so the pollen is rinsed off completely, not just moved from one area to another. A water hose with a nozzle that has a forceful spray is best.
    • 2
Dry most of the water off  with a cotton towel. Some water can remain on.
    • 3
Spray quick detailer on  one  panel at a time. Wipe the detailer off using a microfiber towel. This removes any remaining pollen and creates a slick surface so pollen has a harder time sticking to the  surface.

How Do You Avoid Hydroplaning ?

One of the big hazards of  rainstorms for drivers is hydroplaning, when your car loses contact with the ground, and instead floats uncontrollably on a layer of water. It seems impossible–a ton of vehicle being undone by less than a quarter-inch of water–but any heavy rain is guaranteed to bring hydroplaning wrecks.
Hydroplaning happens when the water on the road in front of your tires accumulates faster than your tires can push it out of the way. The water forces its way between the road and the tire, and raises the car via water pressure. Not a lot, just a tiny fraction of an inch… but that’s enough to make your car “float.”
The effect is like hitting a patch of ice–you lose control, including the ability to brake and steer.
The  following factors that contribute to the risk of hydroplaning during a storm:
1.    Depth of Tire Tread. Another good reason to check your tire tread–worn tires can’t channel water away, and are more likely to cause hydroplaning.
2.    Speed of Car. The faster you’re going, the greater the risk of hydroplaning. Slow down in a heavy downpour, even if you know the road.
3.    Depth of Water. The deeper the water, the more quickly you’ll lose traction. But you don’t have to have puddles to be at risk–even a strong rain can build up quickly.
It can be difficult to tell if you are hydroplaning before that frightening moment when you realize you have no control:
If you find yourself beginning to hydroplane, first, don’t panic…don’t apply brakes…don’t try to turn the steering wheel. These could throw you car into a skid. Instead:
·         Hold the steering wheel firmly, and keep going straight.
·         Ease your foot off the accelerator until you can feel the tires grip the road again, or until you come to a stop.
·         If you must apply brakes (and if you have anti-lock brakes), brake with a slow, steady pressure.
Do not “pump” the brakes. The anti-lock mechanism automatically mimics pumping better than your foot can do it.

It is always important to drive at speeds appropriate to road conditions, and in a downpour, water accumulation is one of those “invisible” conditions.
                           Slow down in the rain…always.

Are You Ready For Motorcycle Season

When the weather warms up, motorcycles come out of garages  and riders hit the road.

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation urges all drivers to give riders some space. Here are some hints that  the driver of a car, should know about motorcyclists:

1.  There are a lot more cars and trucks than motorcycles on the road.

2.  A motorcycle can be easily hidden in a car's blind spots.

3.  A motorcycle may seem to be farther away than it actually is.

4.  Motorcyclists often slow by downshifting or merely rolling off the throttle.

5.  Motorcyclists often adjust their position within a lane to be seen more easily.

6.  Turn signals on a motorcycle are usually not self-canceling.

7.  Maneuverability is one of a motorcycle's better characteristics.

8.  Stopping distance for motorcycles is nearly the same as for cars, but slippery
     pavement makes stopping more difficult.

9.  When a motorcycle is in motion, see more than the motorcycle.
( See the person under  helmet, who could be your friend, neighbor or relative)

Remember : Give them their fair share of the roadway and don't follow too close!
