How Will You Spend Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is a United States Federal Holiday observed on the last Monday of May .

Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War. It was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.

It has become a long weekend increasingly devoted to shopping, family gatherings, fireworks, trips to the beach, and marks the start of the summer vacation season!

Car-Lotta Credit Car Sales will be closed Monday, May 25 th in observance of Memorial Day and will re open Tuesday, May 26th  at 9:00 am

Do You Drive With Earbuds?

Driving while rocking out to your favorite tunes is perfectly legal when you're blasting your car stereo. But is it illegal to drive with headphones or earbuds?
Using headphones or earbuds behind the wheel may seem safe -- after all, you'retechnically complying with all those "hands-free" laws that keep popping up in more states and local jurisdictions nationwide. Right?
Well, it depends where you're driving. Some states specifically cite safety concerns in making it illegal to drive with headphones or earbuds -- while laws in other states are much more hands-off.
Pennsylvania has had  a law on the books since 1974 that prohibits driving while wearing headphones, including earbuds.

The headphone prohibition does not apply to devices for improving hearing or communication equipment used by emergency vehicle drivers or motorcyclists. Nor does it prohibit use of a cellphone headset that provides sound through one ear, allowing surrounding sounds to be heard with the other ear.

The law was amended in 1995 to permit headsets for cellphone use.

A violation of the headphone law carries a fine of $50 to $300, plus costs, imprisonment of up to three months, or both.

Do You Share The Road?

Motorcyclists have all the same rights and privileges as any motor vehicle driver on the roadway. May is  Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month  - and during the rest of the year - drivers of all other vehicles and all road users are reminded to safely "share the road" with motorcyclists, and to be extra alert to help keep motorcyclists safe.
All motorists are reminded to safely "share the road" with motorcycles and to be extra alert to help keep motorcyclists safe. Motorcyclists are reminded to make themselves visible to other motorists.
In 2012, 4,957 motorcyclists were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes—an increase of 7 percent from the 4,630 motorcyclists killed in 2011. There were 93,000 motorcyclists injured during 2012, a 15-percent increase from 81,000 in 2011.
Car-Lotta Credit and Car Sales reminds you  to:
- Spread the word about increasing motorcyclists' safety, and
- Support and enhance your motorcycle safety awareness programs.
